My Story
3 time GD Mama
I survived my entire first trimester on saltines and prayer.Morning sickness had me in a chokehold. So when it finally lifted I had one plan: eat everything.Then I got my gestational diabetes diagnosis, with all three of my pregnancies.The meal plan the nutritionist handed me left me more frustrated and hungry.I am Nigerian-American. I have Gullah Geechee South Carolinian roots. I have Caribbean and Filipino aunties who taught me how to cook. Food is my love language. I knew I had to get creative.This guide is a collection of meals I ate across my pregnancies.Modified versions of the meals I grew up eating, the dishes my aunties taught me and the flavors I have collected from everywhere I have eaten. Each one refined over three GD diagnoses and reviewed by a registered nutritionist.You can still eat good despite the GD diagnosis. Thanks for coming to my table!
